British & Irish Lions finally find their roar

The British & Irish Lions blew away the cobwebs as Jamie Roberts, Tommy Bowe and Ugo Monye all grabbed doubles in the 74-10 demolition of the Golden Lions.

Ian McGeechan's men had come in for criticism for their laboured 37-25 victory over the Royal XV in the opening match of the tour but racked up 10 tries against Super 14 opposition.

Scotland lock Nathan Hines barely put a foot wrong with the Lions' lineout functioning like a well-oiled machine although replacement prop Euan Murray did not have enough time to make an impact.

The rout began after just six minutes when captain Brian O'Driscoll set up centre partner Roberts to crash over.

Moments later O'Driscoll got in on the act himself before English pair Monye and Tom Croft went over in quick succession.

Mike Frolick salvaged some pride for the hosts with a well-worked try but on the stroke of halftime powerhouse Roberts got his second.

The outstanding Bowe grabbed a quickfire double in the second half and fellow wing Monye matched him another well-crafted move.

There was still time for replacements James Hook and Stephen Ferris to put the icing on the cake with intercept tries late on.
