Ayr go top of Prem One



Ayr beat joint leaders Edinburgh Accies 25-18 at Raeburn Place to cement their place at the top of the Scottish Premiership One table.

Iain Berthinussen got two tries for the home side, but it was not enough as scores from John McCrossan, Douglas Steele and Paul Burke gave the visitors the spoils.

Elsewhere Currie scored seven tries in a fine 43-15 win away at fifth placed Watsonians and two tries from Fraser Thomson ensured Melrose beat Stewart’s Melville 29-6.

Dundee HSFP beat Selkirk 27-19 and Heriot’s Rugby Club beat Boroughmuir 26-10 while in Premiership Two action Hawick were comprehensively beaten 48-17 by Aberdeen GSFP.

As a result Biggar moved top with an impressive 34-19 victory at home to Jed Forest and Stirling County resisted a second half fight-back from Gala to win 27-20.

Haddington beat Dunfermline 33-12, Peebles beat GHA 32-16 and both Kirkcaldy and Kelso scored all their points in the first half in an entertaining 29-13 home victory.

And in Premiership Three Falkirk retained their place at the top of the table with a convincing 17-12 win against second bottom Irvine.
