Robinson puts faith in rookies

Scotland head coach Andy Robinson has named three uncapped players in his squad for the opening autumn international against Fiji next month.

Robinson has named back-row forwards Alan MacDonald and Richie Vernon and Scottish Exiles centre Alex Grove for the clash at Murrayfield.

The 32-man squad will meet for a three-day camp at St Andrews on November 2 to begin preparation for the Fijian match on November 14.

And Robinson is convinced the new boys will have what it takes to compete with the Fijians in what will be his first competitive match in the managerial hot-seat.

He said: “We’ve chosen the squad primarily on the basis of current form and there’s a good balance of players.

“Both Alan and Richie have done well this season where the competition in the back row is intense with Roddy Grant also knocking at the door to be included in the squad.”
