Rob Moffat comes down hard on Edinburgh stars after defeat
Edinburgh coach Rob Moffat insists his side must wise-up after slipping to their first Magners League defeat at the hands of European champions Leinster.
Centre Ben Cairns was the only player to touch down at Murrayfield however continued sloppy play cost Edinburgh dear as Leinster ran out 21-19 winners.
Six penalties from the boot of Fergus McFadden did the damage as he cancelled out four efforts from Chris Paterson – who missed a last-gasp effort to steal the win for Edinburgh.
And Moffat admitted the Gunners have to stop giving away needless penalties if they are to maintain their standing at the helm of the Magners League.
“We've got to get smarter because on the sidelines we could almost see the referee waiting to give some penalties,” said Moffat – who side now have just a one-point cushion at the top.
“There were penalties from around the 40 or 45 metre line and I could see that one just before half-time coming.
“We just have to leave that ball even if we think there is a sniff of stealing it. That is probably what lost us the game against Leinster rather than what happened at the end of the match.”
