Edinburgh get Magners League campaign up and running with narrow win in Cardiff
Edinburgh held off a late Cardiff rally to get their Magners League campaign off to the perfect start with a narrow 22-21 win and once again upset the party in the Welsh capital.
The Scottish outfit beat the Blues 36-14 during their last ever match at Arms Park at the end of last season and ensured that life at the Cardiff City Stadium got off on a similar note.
A trio of Phil Godman inspired tries touched down by Tim Visser, Alan MacDonald and Chris Paterson did the damage for the visitors.
Paterson also chipped in with two conversions and a penalty as tries from Cardiff duo Chris Czejak and Gareth Thomas proved too little too late.
New Zealander Ben Blair slotted home 11 points but despite kicking immaculately all night couldn’t convert when it mattered most.
Thomas’ try five minutes from time put Cardiff within two points of victory but Blair hacked the conversion wide as the Blues settled for a losing bonus point.
