Edinburgh 8 Dragons 9

James Arlidge notched three penalties to earn Newport Gwent Dragons a scrappy one-point victory over Edinburgh at Murrayfield to stop the Scots moving back to the top of the Magners League.

In torrential rain, Edinburgh were pinned back in their own half for large periods and Arlidge struck all nine of his side?s points in the first half.

Prior to the half-time whistle, the hosts could barely mount an attack and failed to register themselves on the scoresheet.

But it was a much different story in the second half and the Gunners came out firing with only some resolute last-ditch defence keeping them at bay.

Wing Tim Visser, No.8 Ally Hogg and flanker Roddy Grant were all stopped just short of the line, but finally the penalty was accepted and Phil Godman slotted the points.

Andrew Turnbull touched down in the corner on 67 minutes to bring the scores to 8-9 but Godman missed a difficult conversion from out wide.

In the frantic closing stages both sides had chances to add to their respectively tallies but Godman missed a routine drop-goal while Dragons? Toby Falatau fumbled the ball with the line at his mercy.
