Brave Lions secure consolation win on South Africa

Scotland's Ross Ford helped the British and Irish Lions to their first Test victory of the series against South Africa as the tourists restored pride at Ellis Park.

Wales winger Shane Williams, making his first start of the series, grabbed two tries and Ugo Monye one as the Lions chalked up a comprehensive 28-9 victory as the series finish 2-1 in favour of the hosts.

The Lions again made a flying start and while fly-half Stephen Jones missed his first kick, he made no mistake with his second to break the deadlock, only for last week's match winner Morne Steyn to equalise.

But a fine burst from No.8 Jamie Heaslip, minutes later, saw the Irishman close in on the line and he fed Williams, who surged over.

And it got even better for the Lions and Williams as this time England centre Riki Flutey turned provider, finding the 2008 International Player of the Year, giving the tourists a 15-3 lead on 33 minutes.

Four minutes later, and hooker Matthew Rees went down injured, paving the way for Ford, who plies his trade for Edinburgh, to become the first Scotsman to feature in the Test series.

Just as they did last week, South Africa grabbed a penalty back on the stroke of half-time through Steyn, but after a ferocious start to the second half, Monye intercepted Zane Kirchner's past and scorched 90m to touch down.

Steyn grabbed a penalty for the hosts but time was running out and their indiscipline cost them dear as Jones added a further six points before the hooter to equal the Lions? highest ever score against South Africa.
