Scots romp past England

Scotland finished their Four Nations Championship on a high with a 40-24 victory over England Lionhearts at Staines.

The Scots fought back from 18-14 down at half-time and clinched victory by scoring 20 unanswered points in a 17-minute burst in the second half.

Scotland outcored their hosts by eight tries to four. Harlequins RL winger Dave Arnot touched down twice and Edinburgh's Richard Knight raced away 70 metres to score for Scotland in the first half but tries from Paul Maloney, Paul Le Marquand and Andy Lake - all converted by Rich Cadywood  - saw England edge ahead.

But a superb second-half display, led by Gateshead hooker Dave Vernon and Castleford Panthers stand-off Jamie Benn - who kicked four goals - turned the game.

Scotland scored through Edinburgh Eagles' duo Dave Lynn and Mike Wallace, either side of a try by 17 year old Gateshead winger Mark Dack. When Eagles' centre Andy Todd raced in from halfway Scotland were in control.

Craig Middlemore's try for the Lionearts was cancelled out in the final minute by Dack, completing an excellent team performance that secures third place for Scotland, the wooden spoon for England.
