Scots gear up for French encounter at Meggetland
Scotland rugby league general manger Douglas Campbell has challenged the Scotland 'A' side to stake their claim for a full international berth when they face France Federale in Edinburgh tonight.
The stars of the future welcome France to Meggetland - the home of Boroughmuir RUFC, on the eve of the Magic Weekend as supporters from all across the UK descend to Murrayfield for two days of Super League action.
And Campbell wants his young stars to kick off the weekend in style and earn themselves a place in the European Cup squad, which gets underway in October.
Campbell said: "It should be a great occasion and the match will be a good opportunity for the young Scottish players to stake their claim for a jersey for when Scotland host Lebanon in the European Cup this October.
"We're looking forward to welcoming the supporters of engage Super League clubs that are already in Edinburgh for the Magic Weekend along to Meggetland on Friday night."
Scotland will compete in Group One of the Rugby League European Cup this Autumn and will play in Moscow against Russia in the first round of fixtures before hosting Lebanon in Scotland on Saturday 31 October.
The matches in the European Cup will not only determine the ultimate champions but will also provide rankings for 2010 when France will enter the European Cup, the eventual winners that year then taking part in the 2011 Four Nations tournament; together with England, Australia and New Zealand.
