Steve McCormack steps down from role at Gateshead Thunder
Scotland coach Steve McCormack has quit his role at Gateshead Thunder after club officials began winding up proceedings.
McCormack took over in May and signed a three-year-deal in August before leading the club to Championship survival.
But Thunder directors are planning to wind up holding company Gateshead & Newcastle Rugby Limited and reform the club under a new guise.
McCormack said: “I have been through a similar situation a few years ago with Widnes and I feel that I have to do what is best for my family.
“To be involved in the club's great escape at the end of last season was tremendous and everybody connected with the club deserves immense credit.
"Gateshead is a great club with fantastic supporters and I hope their meetings with the RFL (Rugby Football League) about the future of the club are positive.”
