Scotland RL head coach Steve McCormack praised the support the Super League's Magic Weekend has received from hosts Scottish Rugby.

McCormack, who in 2001 was named Salford City Reds coach at the age of just 28, believes the arrival of super league's showpiece spectacular will help to grow rugby league in Scotland and thanked the assistance of the country's rugby union governing body.

And McCormack is hoping that thousands of newcomers to the sport from Scotland will head to Murrayfield to sample the action this weekend.

"It is great that both codes can work together because both codes have certainly got a lot to offer sports fans in Scotland," said McCormack.

"I just think the skill levels and pace in which the game is played is phenomenal. The teams going to Edinburgh will want to play some quality rugby. I think the intensity of the game may shock a few people who have never been to a live super league game.

"It was brilliant to meet up with Graham Steadman (Scotland defence coach), who was a fantastic rugby league player, to promote the event and he has transferred his knowledge into rugby union.

"I just think the Magic Weekend is a great concept. When the Magic Weekend was staged in Cardiff it helped to grow the game and develop interest in Wales, so hopefully the event at Murrayfield will have the same impact.

"Building from a good World Cup where we won our first game and the publicity that gained, it is vital that the people of Scotland get exposed to as much quality rugby league as they can.

"Fingers crossed, they will take it on board, which I know they will do, and the game will start to grow a bit stronger."
