McCormack: The road to the World Cup starts now
Scotland head coach Steve McCormack insists the road to the 2013 World Cup starts now after announcing his team for the European Cup clash against Italy.
The Bravehearts travel to Padova with a mixture of Super League and Championship players including captain Ben Fisher as well as Edinburgh Eagles duo John Cox and Paddy Coupar.
And former Widnes Vikings head coach McCormack has called for his new-look side to lay down a marker for the future in Italy.
“Our aim over the next few years is to increase the domestic player pool and the challenge is to develop a team for the 2013 World Cup. This process starts with the game in Italy,” said McCormack.
“It’s a pretty exciting time, there will be a lot of lads making their debuts in Padova and we’re not underestimating the Italians.
“We are very fortunate and privileged to be involved in this competition which has allowed us to go out and play in Italy.
“The Italians fancy their chances and have earned the right to be involved in this tournament after winning the European Shield.”
