Victory for Grainger's four
Katherine Grainger led Great Britain's women's quadruple scull to a comfortable victory at the opening FISA World Cup regatta of the season in Munich, Germany.

Grainger, rowing with Fran Houghton, Debbie Flood and Annie Vernon beat off strong competition from a German crew stroked by Kathrin Boron, a five-time Olympic Champion, to lead from start to finish.

Britain, with double Olympic silver medallist Grainger at stroke, had already built up a clear lead over the rest of the field at the 500 metre mark.

They eventually eased down in the closing second of the 2km race but still won by two seconds from Germany with China in third.

It was a successful weekend for the British crews as the team secured five gold medals.

The men's coxless four were in superb form as they won their event and there were also wins for the men's lighteight double scull, men's open double scull and Alan Campbell in the men's single scull.
