Katherine Grainger claims eighth career title in GB Rowing trials
Triple Olympic silver medallist Katherine Grainger claimed her eighth career title in the single sculls at the Great Britain Rowing trials.
The 33-year-old from Glasgow took a prolonged break from the sport after the Beijing Olympics and only returned to training in January.
But Grainger proved far too strong for second-placed Anna Bebington ? an Olympic bronze medallist ? storming to victory by more than seven seconds, coming home in 7:36.05 minutes.
By 250m Grainger had her nose in front and by 900m had further extended her lead to a length, before comfortably cruising home to take the title.
"It's been a tough three months but I've worked really well with my coach, Paul Thompson, to get it right", said Grainger.
Bebington?s strong performance in the final 350m gave her second place ahead of Annabel Vernon, with Sarah Winckless in fourth and Beth Rodford fifth.
