Katherine Grainger indicates that she may go for gold at London 2012
Scottish rower and three-time Olympic medallist Katherine Grainger has given her strongest indication yet that she will continue to row in a bid to win a first gold medal at the London Olympics in 2012.
Grainger, 32 from Aberdeen, led the British quadruple sculls team (along with Annie Vernon, Debbie Flood and Frances Houghton) in Beijing this year, where they were widely expected to take gold after dominating the international field throughout the season. However, a late burst from China saw the Brits pipped at the post by the home team.
Grainger had already twice won silver in previous Olympics at Athens in 2004 and Sydney in 2000. But this week she told the BBC that she might give it one last shot.
"A decent career can see you through three Olympics," said Grainger.
"It's unusual to go on a lot longer, especially in the women's team, but I think the answer is going to be yes. I think I'm going to continue.
"It's been a really tough decision and, to be honest, it's not 100% certain either way. I still have to meet with our team manager and make the official decision.”
