Hill Running

Scott Fraser, who won a bronze medal at last week's World University Orienteering Championships, is preparing for another international event by competing in this weekend's Cairngorm Hill Race.

The 22-year-old Scot has already been selected as one of five Scots for next month's World Hill Running Trophy in Switzerland - Cairngorm is one of the trial races.

Last year, Fraser made a spectacular hill running debut by winning the Braemar Hill Race.

"The orienteering season is now finished, so it's nice to be able to move on and compete on the hills," said the Edinburgh University graduate. "I'm really looking forward to Switzerland."

Looking to the long-term, Fraser is contemplating making his bid for a place in Scotland's team for the 2014 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow.

"I'd like to try and make the team in either the 10,000m or the marathon," he said. "I love running, although orienteering is my favourite. I like being able to mix the athletics with the mental skills of map reading."
