
X-Scotia takes to the skies!

Is it a bird, is it a plane? No, it's X-Scotia!

As highlighted by these snippets of blog information, X-Scotia, the inaugural cross-mountain adventure racing competition held around Lochearnhead (Stirlingshire) last weekend was always going to be a high-flying affair.
Inspired by the legendary Red Bull 850km (14 day) trans-Alps event, Sunday saw the conclusion to Scotland's first 36-hour X-Scotia race.
Demonstrating to hill-walkers that there are quicker and more exhilarating ways to bag a Munro, 50 daredevil competitors used their paragliders and running shoes to fly and run around a 70km course that incorporated three Munro's!
Whilst it was Steve Nash whom ultimately won the SHPF (Scottish Hang-gliding and Paragliding Federation) X-Scotia Trophy, it's assumed many of his fellow competitors also managed to steer their way through the high altitude checkpoints of Ben Vorlich (985m), Ben More (1174m) and Meall nan Tarmachan (1043m) before touching down again at Lochearnhead.
It's also assumed the competitor listed as Patrick A didn't come down with a bump. For ominously, one of his aerial reports simply read '... heading for Ben More Hotel!'
