Young Scots tie with English

Scotland and England shared the honours in the individual events at the Junior Home internationals at Newborough Forest. 

The Scottish girls beat their English counterparts by four points, while the English boys scored a reverse result. Wales were third, with Ireland in fourth place. 

There were podium places for Evelyn Mason (MAROC) 1st W14, Roz Shepherd (INVOC) 2nd W16, Lauren Campbell (AYROC) 2nd W18 and Kirstin Maxwell (RR) 3rd W18; Finlay Langan (MAROC) was 2nd M16 and Jamie Stevenson (FVO) and Alan Cherry (INT) were 2nd and 3rd respectively in M18.  

There were also 4th places for Sasha Chepelin (GRAMP) in M14,Karen Maxwell (RR) in W14 and Rona Lindsay (ESOC) in W16.  Overall it was an excellent performance from the Scottish team, many of whom were in the first year of their age class.

As expected, the final day relays were very close competition right up until the last leg when the English runners took the lead and went on to take the title. The Scots finished a close second, followed by Wales and Ireland. 

Best Scottish relay performance came from the girls’ team of Katrina McLeod, Karen Maxwell and Kirstin Maxwell who were third.
