Scots hold their own in massive relay

The two Scottish teams did themselves proud at the biggest relay in the world, the Jukola in Mikkeli in Finland.

The race involves over 700 teams and up to 30,000 people racers and the Scottish men’s team of Dug Tullie, Anthony Squire, Oleg Chepelin, Andy Kitchen, Murray Strain and Alasdair MacLeod finished 63rd.

Perhaps the more impressive statistic is that they were second best of the non-Scandinavian team.

In the women’s event, he very youthful line-up of Hazel Wright, Mhairi McKenzie and sisters Hollie and Jessica Orr finished 96th.

Overall, it was an impressive Scottish performance and proved that Scotland is more than capable of competing with the major powers of Sweden, Norway and Finland.

Next month, Hollie, Hazel and Alasdair will be competing for Great Britain at the World Junior Championships in Italy.
