Scots are junior champs

After a ten year gap, Scotland has reclaimed the 2009 Junior Inter-Regional Championship after a great effort in Lagan Valley in Northern Ireland. In a line-up of 12 teams and 230 junior racers, the Scots beat North-West of England into second place with Yorkshire third.

The individual race was held on Slievenagore in the Mourne Mountains in hot, sunny weather.

Scotland won the trophy with 4 podium places - Evelyn Mason finished  2nd and 12-year-old Sasha Chepelin finished 3rd in the 14 years age-group, Rozy Shepherd 3rd in 16 years and Lauren Campbell 3rd in 18 years.

With two to count for each age class, Scotland beat Yorkshire by 243 points to 224, with North-West 3rd in 214.

Scotland were runners-up to North-West in the relays, but the strength in depth and the lead from the Individual secured overall victory.
