GB curlers face semi-final play-off at European Youth Winter Olympics
Team GB’s women’s curlers lost 9-4 to Denmark in their last match of the round robin stage on Thursday at the European Youth Olympic Winter Festival.
The defeat followed a draw short challenge between themselves, Switzerland and Denmark. The Swiss took the automatic place in to the final by less than 1cm. GB will now have a re-match against Denmark in the semi-final tomorrow morning.
Following the match, coach Debbie Knox said: “It is disappointing to have been so close to getting a spot in the final today but tomorrow we fortunately have another opportunity.
“After reflection on the game today the women are now all very upbeat about their chances tomorrow and their form this week has shown that tomorrow they have the ability to deliver a gold medal winning performance.”
In the men’s cross country sprint event Callum Smith (Inverurie) finished 44th and William Newman (Huntly) 60th and in the women’s event Deborah May (Huntly) finished 54th and Lauren Spencer (Gloucester) finished 58th.
