Curlers going for gold

On Wednesday Team GB’s women curlers remained undefeated at the European Youth Olympic Winter Festival and guaranteed themselves at least a bronze medal after defeating hosts Poland 5-1.

Not to be out done, however, the men’s team also convincingly defeated the hosts 12-1 and later in the day beat Denmark 6-4 to guarantee that they too would be heading home with a medal.

Meanwhile tough conditions on the cross country course challenged Team GB’s skiers.  Callum Smith (Inverurie) finished 53rd in the men’s 10km Freestyle with team-mate William Newman (Huntly) 66th.

In the women’s 7.5km Freestyle race Deborah May (Huntly) finished 56th and Lauren Spencer (Gloucester) 60th.

Thursday sees Team GB in action in the following sports:

Cross Country

Deborah May and Lauren Spencer will compete in the women’s 1000m Sprint and William Newman, Callum Smith and Andrew Young will go in the men’s 1000m Sprint.

Curling

Competition continues for the women’s team who face Denmark and will be hoping to book a spot in Friday’s final .

Figure Skating
