Gillian Cooke determined to claim place in GB Olympic squad
World champion Gillian Cooke admits the race to make the British bobsleigh bound for next year’s Winter Olympics couldn’t be tougher – but has vowed to be there one way or another.
Cooke shot to prominence last year claiming world gold alongside Nicola Minichiello in America in February less than six months after first stepping foot in a bobsleigh.
Despite her success Cooke has been forced to prove her Olympic worth over the past week during a new set of British time trials in Bath.
The long-jumper turned bobsleigh brakewoman set a new personal best of 3.95 seconds for a single push on the start track trolley on rails and believes she couldn’t be better placed to achieve her Olympic dream.
"It's basically been back to where we were last year with this time nine or ten girls chasing the place thanks to the extra publicity the sport has received," said Cooke.
"My technique's a lot better, my running is good and I've been lifting personal bests in the weights room.”
