McNish feeling 'robbed and frustrated' after Petit Le Mans washout
Allan McNish refused to point the finger at the race organisers after his pursuit of a fourth successive Petit Le Mans title were scuppered by torrential rain.
The downpour brought proceedings to a premature close at Road Atlanta with Scot McNish and co-drive Dindo Capello lying in third place, just 3.465 seconds behind the winning Peugeot of Franck Montagny and Stephane Sarrazin.
McNish and Capello had led the 1,000mile race in their Audi R15 TDi in the opening four hours after starting third on the grid.
But two spins saw the duo drop back to third before the race was stopped with almost five hours run and after a four hour delay the race officials decided against a restart.
"It was a disappointing way for the race to end," said McNish.
"But it was the correct decision due to the track conditions, although I feel robbed and frustrated.
"I was leading, but spun down to third on a greasy track after light rain during another safety car period when my slick tyres became cold running at slow speed and lost their grip.
"The organisers made the right decision, if not five laps late, as there would have been no cars left on the track in those conditions."
