Keith Amor frustrated after Isle of Man Tourist Trophy opening race retirement
Falkirk rider Keith Amor cut a forlorn figure after mechanical problems forced him out of the opening Dainese Superbike race at the Isle of Man Tourist Trophy.
The 36-year-old had high hopes after a solid practice week around the 37.73-mile Mountain Course but lasted just two laps after errors within the fuel tank forced his Honda to misfire.
Amor will have little time to dwell on his opening race woe with the first Relentless Supersport and Royal London 360 Superstock race less than 24 hours away.
The Wilson Craig Racing rider stepped on the podium in the Relentless Supersport opener last year and admitted if things go to plan on his second choice bike he may leave his Superbike one back in the garage.
"There has been far too much time and money invested from everybody involved to break down due to something stupid like that," fumed Amor.
"I am going out on my Superstock bike next time around and if that is running good times I might just run that for the Senior TT later in the week.
"I'm hugely disappointed, we had a real steady first lap because I just wanted to ease into it but then we weren't long into the second lap and the bike just started misfiring."
HM Plant Honda rider John McGuinness moved to second on the all time win list after a carefree rider saw him pick up his 15th victory and jump ahead of Mike Hailwood.
Team-mate Steve Plater climbed the podium for just the second time ever after coming in behind McGuinness while Hydrex Honda's Guy Martin claimed third.
