Heart-ache for Easton as mechanical failure dashes Oulton Park hopes

Hawick's Stuart Easton saw his impressive start to his 2009 ViSK British Superbikes campaign ended in dramatic fashion at Oulton Park, but vowed he is far from finished yet.

The 25-year-old continued his fine form in race one in Cheshire and just missed out on a podium finish as he was pipped to third by Frenchman Sylvain Guintoli.

Easton and Hydrex Honda team-mate Karl Harris had got off to a flying start in race one and led the way, until Leon Camier stormed through to take victory.

The start to the second race was a carbon copy of the first as Easton and Harris romped out in front, until his bike suddenly mal-functioned in race two, leaving Easton high and dry and rueing what might have been.

"I was gutted with the second race," he said. "It was just a problem with the bike, I'm not sure what happened but the bike just cut out.

"It just stopped working really quickly which is never good. And considering I was running so well, I was absolutely beside myself.

"It was a shame because I felt a lot better in that race compared to the first, a lot more relaxed and focussed on what I needed to do.

"But we've got Donington and Thruxton back to back next, Thruxton is actually my favourite track, so if I can have a good one at Donington, who knows what can happen at Thruxton."
