Spence out of the hunt in World Cup Final

Inverness’ Mhairi Spence ended her season with a disappointing 12th place finish at the Modern Pentathlon World Cup Final in Rio de Janeiro.
Spence went to Brazil with her best result in 2009 a fifth place finish at the Rome World Cup in May.

The 24-year-old helped Great Britain to team gold at June’s European Championships before finishing 14th at the World Championships in Crystal Palace a month later.

And Spence registered 5228 points in Rio to cross the line as the second Brit ahead of Katy Livingston but behind Olympic silver medallist Heather Fell, who missed out on a medal in fourth.

Lithuania’s Donata Rimsaite took gold, while home-hope Yana Marques captured bronze and Hungary’s Leila Gyenesei completed the podium.
