Spence in contention

Scotland's Mhairi Spence will look to rubber-stamp her place in the Modern Pentathlon World Cup final, at the last round of competition in Rome this weekend.

Spence, 23, finished fourth in Budapest earlier this season and heads to the Eternal City as Great Britain's highest ranked female competitor in 15th.

The Inverness ace heads to Rome on good form, having finished 13th at the Hungary World Cup last week, where Great Britain also picked up team bronze.

Spence will be joined by three fellow Brits in Rome including Olympic silver medallist Heather Fell, 2008 European champion Katy Livingston and promising teenager Freyja Prentice.

The competition in Rome is the fourth and final round of the World Cup season and represents the final opportunity for athletes to confirm their places at the World Cup final in Rio de Janeiro.

Competing in the men?s event for Great Britain will be Beijing Olympians Nick Woodbridge and Sam Weale, who is currently ninth overall, as well as Simon Taylor.
