Calum Robb takes historic bronze for Scotland at World Championships
East Lothian karate star Calum Robb has made history by becoming the first senior athlete to win a medal for Scotland at a world championships.
The 23-year-old won a bronze medal in the men’s +80kg event in the Senior World All-Style Karate Championships in Tokyo, Japan.
A karate scholarship Phd student at Heriot-Watt University, Robb was joined in Team Scotland by Lisa Cairns and Glen Mundell.
Until recently, a full GB team competed at such events, but now the karate federations have split into their respective countries.
Nearly 100 nations were competing at the championships, with many of them sending fully supported professional athletes to the event.
