Kimberly Renicks to make her bow on the world stage
Kimberley Renicks makes her World Championship debut in Rotterdam this week - one of three Scots in the British team.
The 21 year-old from Coatbridge beat the reigning Olympic champion in her last major outing at the German Open in Sindelfingen.
But she has been drawn to face top seed Frederique Jossinet in her first match in the Under-48kg event.
Sarah Clark will face Romanian Corina Caprioriu in the Under-57kg event.
And British Judo performance director Margaret Hicks has backed former European gold medallist Clark to add to her medal tally at the Championships.
Clark, 31, was crowned European champion in 2006 and picked up silver at April’s European Championships in Tbilisi – Great Britain’s sole medal.
And Hicks has backed Edinburgh-based Clark to be Great Britain’s leading light again in Holland this week.
“Sarah is doing very well at the moment and has a lot of experience,” said Hicks.
“She is one of the more experienced players who will go to the World Championships with a good chance.
“There are a lot of talented young players in this group and we want them to aspire to match the likes of Sarah.”
In the men's Under-81kg, Euan Burton opens against Srdjan Mrvaljevic (Macedonia).
