British Judo's new head coach is refusing to set medal targets after naming five Scots in his team for next month's European Championships.

Patrick Roux has named a 12-strong squad - but included just two former European medallists.

Edinburgh is the best represented with four members on the team.

Sarah Clark, who won gold at -63kg in 2006, will compete in her new -57kg weight category while club team-mate Euan Barton, a bronze medallist two years ago, will look to upgrade that medal in the -81kg event.

James Millar (-60kg) and Sarah Adlington (+78kg) are also included, along with Glasgow-based heavyweight Andrew Burns (-90kg)

Britain disappointed at last year's Olympics - despite traveling to China with high hopes. Clark was particularly devastated after a first round defeat against former Olympic silver medallist Claudia Heill of Austria.

But Roux is confident his youthful squad can perform in Georgia.

"It is natural to expect and want to win medals, but we also know that to achieve our Olympic dream in 2012, we have to be more ambitious and more rational," he said.

"At this stage we are more looking at the general improvement of the GB judo team.

"During the last six months, a new cycle of national squad training has allowed us to evaluate the judo players potential and introduce new concepts and new methods.

"This has been a period of a great deal of change and new experiences - which will not necessarily produce immediate results but I have been extremely pleased with the response of both athletes and coaches in accepting the long term target.

"This foundation period is our opportunity to get these details right for a great performance in 2012."
