Three Edinburgh judoka named in GB squad for World Championships
Edinburgh judo stars Sarah Clark, Euan Burton and Sally Conway have all been named in Great Britain’s squad for the World Championships in Rotterdam later this month.
Clark, will again compete in the -57kg category, having secured European Championship silver since her step down from -63kg after the Beijing Olympics.
Burton, who claimed bronze at the 2007 World Championships in Rio de Janeiro, will also make the trip and, along with Clark, is one of five athletes in the 14-strong squad to have returned from the Beijing Olympics empty-handed.
“I am observing some interesting improvements both at training camps and within competitions,” said British Judo head coach Patrick Roux.
“Although the World Championships are always a major milestone event, for us our target is London 2012.”
“We have to wait to see the draw and as we know judo can prove to be unpredictable.
“However, we have some players who are capable of reaching the final block of fights in Rotterdam and then the possibility to challenge for medals.”
