International Gold for Aberdeen skaters
A team from the Aberdeen Synchronized Ice Skating Club took first place in a recent International Club competition.
Zariba beat teams from Scotland, England, Iceland and Italy to win the Sk8Scotland Trophy D'Ecosse Club International competition.
Zariba scored 33.69, a full 3 points ahead of the second placed team, Olimpia from Italy.
As this competition also doubled as the Sk8scotland Scottish Synchronized Skating Championships, Zariba were also crowned Scottish Champions (Intermediate 2 level), regaining the title they held in 2009.
At the same competition, PiZazz (the club’s Intermediate 1 team) took silver in the International competition and gold in the Scottish Championship with a score of 29.46, just over one point behind the winners, Unum from Sheffield.
This result means that both Zariba and PiZazz currently hold both the British and Scottish titles at Intermediate 2 and Intermediate 1 levels respectively, another unique double for this successful Scottish club.
The Club’s success was further enhanced when AZura, competing in their first competition, took silver behind Solway Eclipse who were skating in their home rink. The three teams, coached by Sara Paterson, won an impressive haul of 5 medals and two trophies.
