Pliskauskas returns to Edinburgh ranks

Edinburgh coach Doug Christiansen’s squad is continuing to take shape after he lured former centre Darius Pliskauskas back to the Scottish capital.

The Lithuanian hitman pulled on the Edinburgh jersey three seasons ago scoring nine goals in 22 games and has since been developing his game in Latvia.

Family commitments forced Pliskauskas to depart the Capitals and Christiansen couldn’t hide his delight on securing his signature once again.

“Darius comes highly recommended after his stint in Edinburgh three seasons ago. He is a good skating centre, who has the ability to play in all situations and I am looking for him to add offense and energy,” said Christiansen.

"When I look at our line-up I believe we have three wingers who can score 20 or more goals. I was looking for a centre who could play strong defensively and help make plays in the offensive zone.

“I believe Darius can do that and make the players around him better.”

Martin Cingel is also set to return to the Edinburgh Capitals for an eighth consecutive season.

Cingel, who has scored 166 goals in seven previous seasons in Edinburgh, is delighted to be back for the new campaign.

"I believe the league will be very competitive and that is very good for the fans," he said.

"If we look at our roster right now we have got some very good players and I know more is to come."

Coach Christiansen said, "Martin has been the captain both years I have been here.

"Last year he was a unanimous selection by the team. That says a lot about him as a person and as a leader.

"He has been a large reason for our success in the second halves the last two seasons. He is a positive person and always has a smile on his face."
