Pliskauskas on target as Capitals upset the odds

Edinburgh Capitals produced the performance of the weekend as they beat Elite League leaders Nottingham Panthers 5-4 on Sunday.

The Capitals gained immediate revenge for their 5-3 reverse at the hands of the Panthers in Nottingham on Saturday with Darius Pliskauskas responsible for the match-winning goal.

The Edinburgh faithful were given some early cheer as Mark Garside scored on the powerplay after 13 minutes but the visitors stuck back in the second period through Dominic D'Amour and Sean McAslan.

But back came Capitals and a powerplay strike by Owen Fussey in the 32nd minute was followed by a Scott McKenzie effort minutes later before Neil Hay made it 4-2 after two periods.

A goal by Kevin Bergin reduced the arrears in the final period before Pliskauskas struck after 52 minutes with a third powerplay goal for the home side.

Cameron Mann was on target for Nottingham in the 54th minute to set up a nervy finish but the Capitals held on to climb above the Sheffield Steelers in to sixth place in the table.
