Edinburgh coach Christiansen warns his goal-shy forwards
Edinburgh coach Doug Christiansen has warned his shot-shy forwards to start firing after they fell to the bottom of the Elite League table with a 4-1 loss to Hull.
Darius Pliskauskas got the Capitals off to the perfect start in the second period but when Lee Esders equalised shortly after it was all downhill for the Scots.
Pavel Gomenyuk fired Hull in front with a shorthanded goal at the start of the third period before Sylvain Cloutier and Stephen Burns’ empty net goal sealed the deal.
And Christiansen – who watched from the sidelines as he continues his recovery from injury – admitted Edinburgh need to improve in front of goal if they are lift themselves off the bottom.
“We scored several goals late on but it is frustrating and disappointing that we didn't take anything from this game. Simply, we didn't execute,” said Christiansen.
“It was not a 4-1 game. They scored an empty net goal and we played well in the opening two periods,” said Christiansen.
“After the second period we could have been three or four goals up but they took their chances and we didn't.
“It is frustrating that we missed chances but their goaltender played exceptionally well to keep them in the game."
