Capitals grab important win against Sheffield Steelers
Struggling Edinburgh Capitals needed a penalty shoot-out to get the better of the Sheffield Steelers to win their second Elite League game of the season 6-5.
Simon Lambert made the decisive contribution for Edinburgh with two strikes and a penalty winning shot as Sheffield's woeful home run - they've won just once in seven games - continued.
Lambert opened Edinburgh's account and Michael Benyon doubled their advantage with a powerplay strike.
Sheffield were always in the game though and responded with three goals in five minutes – a Rod Sarich double and Doug Sheppard strike.
Benyon restored parity before the third period saw the teams trade four goals – Joey Talbot and Matt Hubbauer netting for Sheffield and Martin Cingel and Ben O'Connor responding for the visitors.
Overtime remained goalless and Lambert settled it in the shoot-out.
