Scots set for strenuous session against Germans
Scotland’s U21 women will face a major test in Stirling this weekend, against Europe’s number one side, Germany.
The two sides clash in three games with the Scots holding eight gruelling training sessions in between. The matches are scheduled for Friday at 16:30, Saturday at 20:00 and Sunday at 15:00.
Scottish coach Dave Stott said: “Germany will stretch us technically and physically. They are methodical and will provide tough competition in preparation for the Celtic Cup in June, but more importantly for the European Trophy in Prague late July.”
The Scots can expect to be pushed to the limit as it’s selection time for the Germans, who are keen to refine their own team to retain the top spot in Europe at the European Championships in Valencia 20-26th July, the same dates as the Trophy competition in Prague.
Scotland’s squad for Stirling is the same group that attended the GB Super League, with the exception of Emily Bain (Edinburgh Cala) who is out of the line up due to illness.
“With our core group of players, who have challenged Germany before and have valid experienced, we’ll be able to compete,” said a confident Stott. “In our favour this year is home advantage. In the past few years we’ve had too much travel in our programme, which put pressure on the girls. This year we planned a lot of our training to take place in-house, or in Scotland, which has helped.”
