Tough weekend for Scots

It was a weekend of disappointment for Scotland’s hockey players in the home leg of the GB Super League, held at Peffermill, Edinburgh.

In the men’s tournament, the Caledonian Cougars finished joint last out of four teams in the league standings.

They lost 5-2 to the Saxon Tigers on Saturday, Joe Simpson (PC) and Michael Christie making the score-sheet for the local region, before suffering a crushing 3-1 loss to the Celtic Panthers in the bronze medal play-off on Sunday, Chris Grassick finding the net for the Scots via a penalty corner.

The women fared worse, finishing last, but failing to even register a win, falling 2-0 to the Saxon Tigers and then 3-2 to the Celtic Panthers, a squad that actually contained five Scots, offering an unusual consolation to local fans.

Nikki Kidd and Becky Merchant got the goals for the Cougars.
