Scotland keep Euro Nation promotion hopes alive with 4-0 win
Scotland kept their hopes of European Nations Trophy promotion alive with a thumping 4-0 win over Switzerland in Wrexham on Monday.
The Scots slumped to a 4-2 defeat in their opening match against hosts Wales, but roared back in fine style, thanks to goals from Mark Ralph, Stephen Dick, Chris Nelson and Niall Stott.
That victory means Alan Bryce’s men must defeat the Czech Republic on Tuesday to advance to the semi-finals and remain in with a chance of promotion to the elite Championship level.
Scotland were rewarded for their lively start when Ralph broke the deadlock from the opening penalty corner with a trademark drag flick.
And Scotland were two to the good just three minutes later when Ralph, Stephen Dick and Graham Dunlop combined well for Nelson to fire the ball home.
It was three when Kenny Bain intercepted a pass out of the Swiss defence before feeding Stott and the Hamburg striker scored with a fine volley.
And before half time the Scots had their fourth when Bain went on a rampaging solo run and rifled the ball into the roof of the net.
In the second half, Scotland took their foot off the pedal with victory already sewn up and with Wales drawing 1-1 with the Czech Republic, promotion remains a possibility.
