Scots women come home from Ireland with a point well proved
Despite hail and thunder in Ireland, Scotland’s women completed a hat-trick of victories over their higher-ranked hosts this weekend.
They edged a 1-0 win on Saturday night to ensure the series, following their 3-1 win on Friday evening. A 2-1 win on Sunday ensured a whitewash.
Manager Lynne Dick said: "We had a point to prove, that our international ranking eight places below the Irish is far from reality, and the three victories confirmed just that.
"Over the whole weekend, we played some fast and flowing hockey and I was especially proud of the girls who have stepped up from the U21 squad, who all played very well."
By contrast, Scotland’s men suffered a miserable weekend of three losses to the Irish, with Saturday’s 2-1 defeat the closest of the three but of little consolation.
