Scotland coach Royce backs senior men to earn promotion
Scottish hockey head coach Jon Royce is convinced his senior men's side can mix it with the big boys at the EuroHockey Nations Trophy and win promotion to the European Championship.
The EuroHockey Nations Championships is made-up of four separate competitions, the Championship, Trophy, Challenge I and Challenge II, with Scotland bidding for to make the leap from the Trophy into the top tier when they travel to Wrexham.
The Scots will be in pool B alongside Czech Republic, Switzerland and Wales at Glyndwr University from August 1-8 and Royce is hoping for big things from his side.
He said: "If we play to our potential we can get promoted, Wales will be a tough game and Switzerland and Czech Republic will be fighting for a place at the top table but so will we and we are more skilful.
"The strength of our squad is in the spread of age and experience. We have some young lads but also older players like Ali McGregor and Stephen Dick.
"Morale is good and everyone knows the responsibility lies with both forwards and defenders to make the most of chances created and to not concede goals - it's a real test."
