GB earn double draw

Scotland’s men put in a strong showing in their bid to make the British Olympic squad as team GB ground out two draws with Spain at the weekend in Terrassa.

Saturday’s first test, in which Scotland captain Graham Moodie earned his 50th cap for GB, finished with an uneventful 1-1 draw.  Stephen Dick also started, while Mark Ralph and Niall Stott came off the bench in the second half.

Sunday’s match was more entertaining, and garnered double the goals, as GB twice came back from behind to grind out a 2-2 draw, with two goals coming either side of the half-way mark.

Goalkeeper Ali McGregor was the only Scot to start this time, but Graham Moodie and Stephen Dick were used substitutes.

The tests were played in the midst a hard training schedule for the Brits.

Manager Pete Nicholson said “We’re very pleased with the training camp this week.  The guys have been faced with some very tough training sessions and we’ve come through without any injuries which is good.

Spain and Great Britain are in opposite pools in the Olympic Games so will not meet in the early stages of the tournament.  The two teams last met in the Champions Trophy in Malaysia in December where Spain recorded 5-0 and 4-2 victories over the Brits.

Great Britain men and women are next in action when they travel to Dublin for the Setanta Trophy later this week.
