McCafferty sinks Greece

Scot Lynn McCafferty hit five goals as Great Britain defeated Greece 25-23 in their final match in their World Championship qualifying group in Emmen, Holland.

McCafferty played a true captain's part as the GB team finished fifth in the tournament ahead of Greece.

It was the only match the GB side managed to win but they were competitive in all of their fixtures and troubled Holland, Turkey and Lithuania.

“It has been a superb week,” said head coach Jesper Holmris. “Obviously it’s great to beat Greece, but also the first three games we did very well against Lithuania, Turkey, and Holland as well.

“We have learned a lot out here, but most importantly we’re much closer to the next level of nations than we previously thought. We can now move on and prepare for the European Championship qualifiers next year.”
