Daniel Keatings secures silver medal at European Championships in Milan
Scotland's Daniel Keatings won a silver medal for Great Britain at the European Championships in Milan.
Keatings, an Olympic finalist, went into the final as the top qualifier but just missed out on gold to Germany's Fabian Hambuechen.
Hambuechen did everything he could to try and lose the final, stepping out of the Vault landing zone, falling from the Parallel Bars and missing a handstand during a Squat full out on High Bar.
But he gave his all at Floor and Pommels to total an unrivalled 89.175 and the European crown.
Keatings finished with a total of 88.275 points with Russia's Yuri Ryazanov taking the bronze (88.200).
Scottish champion Dan Purvis finished seventh on his senior European debut with 86.075 points.
In the individual finals, Beth Tweddle won gold for Britain on the asymmetric bars. Keatings’ bronze medal on the pommel horse was set alongside a silver in the same discipline from his Huntingdon clubmate and Olympic bronze medallist, Louis Smith.
"It only gets better,” said a delighted GB Technical Director, Eddie Van Hoof. "Both our Scottish "Dans" have done a great job for GB today. The medal and the rankings show how we are competing so well against the very best in the world."
