Keating in search of Olympic final spot
Danny Keatings' long-time coach is confident that the young Scot can be a real contender at next month's Olympic Games.
The 18-year-old is a great all-rounder - he recently won the European Junior Overall title - but his standout discipline is the Pommel Horse. Last year, he won the silver medal at the senior European Championships.
"Danny has one of the most difficult Pommel routines and if he pulls it off he should get into the final," said Paul Hall, head coach at the Huntingdon Gym Club in Cambridgeshire. "Once he gets there, then anything can happen."
Keatings admits he can hardly wait to get on the plane to Beijing. "Making the Olympic Games is the highest achievement for any gymnast," he said. "I was speechless when I first heard I had made the team. Now I'm looking forward to doing my very best."
Keatings is one of only two British male gymnasts to travel to Beijing - clubmate Louis Smith is the other - but the hope is that he will be spearheading a string British team come London 2012.
