Danny Keatings sets sights on victory at World Championships
Scotland’s Danny Keatings, an all-round finalist at the Olympics in Beijing last year, will be hunting for more glory at the World Championships at the O2 Arena in London next week.
Keatings, 19, will be one of the main home hopes for a medal – and it is all part of his preparation for the London 2012 Olympics, which will be staged in the same venue.
“I’m really looking forward to next week,” said the Huntingdon-based Scot. “I’m already gearing everything towards London in three year’s time and this will be a fantastic chance to compete in front of a home crowd at the very highest level.”
Keatings faces a formidable line-up in London. Olympic all-round champion Yang Wei (China) has retired but Keatings will come up against Olympic silver medallist Kohei Ushimura (Japan) and European champion Fabian Hambuechen (Germany).
Daniel Purvis is the second Scot in a British team that also includes the Olympic medallist on the Pommel Horse, Louis Smith.
Britain’s Beth Tweddle, now back from injury, will be aiming to show her top form – and she will be all out to regain the world title on the Asymmetric Bars and will also be one of the favourites on the Floor.
