Clare Queen and Catriona Matthew the in-form Scots on pro-circuit
Scotland’s Catriona Matthew continued her magnificent season with a first round of five under par 67 at the Hana Bank KOLON Championship in South Korea.
The 40-year-old gained entry to the elite tournament as the result of her win in the major, the Ricoh Women’s British Open, and the six birdie round put her just a stroke behind the joint leaders, Americans Meaghan Francella and Anna Grzbien.
Matthew is the only British player in the 71-strong field, and was the top European, one ahead of her fellow Solheim Cup player from Sweden, Maria Hjorth.
At the Suzhou Taihu Ladies’ Open in China on the Ladies’ European Tour, Clare Queen was the best of the three Scots after an opening round 74. She was tied for 34th place and two ahead of Lynn Kenny and four better than Vikki Laing.
France’s Gwladys Nocera and Thailand’s Pornanong Phatlum shared the lead on four under par 68.
