Whiteford hoping to follow in pal Drysdale's footsteps
Scottish golfer Peter Whiteford achieved the biggest result of his career at the weekend and immediately set his sights on emulating his friend David Drysdale by making the jump into world golf’s elite.
While Drysdale prepares to head to Dubai after a stunning season, 29-year-old Whiteford achieved his own slice of success when he beat Andrew Tampion in a play-off to take the Apulia San Domenico Grand Final.
That took him to fifth on the Challenge Tour money list, and now Whiteford wants to follow Drysdale in mixing it with the sport’s big boys.
“David is a good mate of mine and it's great what he's achieved this season,” he said. “For want of a better word he was a journeyman pro but he's now a world-class player. He's certainly someone I can look to for inspiration.
“Getting back on the tour was the aim for me and after my experiences last year I feel I'll be much better prepared next season.
“I was 15th on the money list coming into this and I just wanted to consolidate my position but to move up to fifth is tremendous as it gives me a full card.”
