US based Scottish starlet Watson wins Leadbetter Challenge tournament
US based golfing star Sally Watson won the The Leadbetter Challenge's girls' tournament in Florida yesterday.
Held at the IMG Academies Golf & Country Club's course, Sarasota Bay, Bradenton, 17-year-old Watson, from Elie, shot rounds of 72 and 71 for a one-under-par total of 143.
The Scot, who will enrol at Tiger Woods' old haunt, Stanford University, in the autumn, was playing in only her second major tournament since recovering from a knee operation in the summer, (another Woods parallel) having last played in the Curtis Cup defeat to the US in May.
Having endured patchy form last weekend, Watson produced the kind of consistency she has been training for this time round, eventually winning by just one shot over Israel's Laetitia Beck, a fellow student of Sally's at the Leadbetter Academy.
